What to expect:-
We cover the following topics in line with the National Curriculum over the period while your child is in Year 6.
- Number – Place value in very large numbers. Rounding numbers. Negative numbers.
- Calculations – Multiplication and division. BIDMAS. Estimating and checking.
- Fractions, Decimals and Percentages – Ordering fractions. Add, subtract and multiply fractions. Dividing fractions by whole numbers. Multiplying and dividing with decimals.
- Ratio and proportion – Relative sizes. Scale factors. Percentage of amounts. Unequal Sharing
- Algebra – Sequences. Missing number problems. Formulas.
- Measurement – Units. Area of a triangle and parallelogram. Perimeters. Volume of cubes and cuboids.
- Geometry – Drawing 2D shapes. 3D shapes. Circles. Angles in shapes. Coordinates. Reflection.
- Statistics – Pie charts. Line graphs. The Mean.
Your child will be given a piece of homework to complete each week. This will usually be consolidation of the learning from each lesson. Any homework they find difficult and not able to do on their own will then be re-addressed in the following lesson.
