What to expect:-
We cover the following topics over the year while your child is in Year 5.
- Number – Counting backwards through zero. Ordering and comparing large numbers. Counting in powers of 10. Rounding.
- Calculations – Square and cube numbers. Multiples, factors and prime numbers. Written multiplication and division.
- Fractions, Decimals and Percentages – Ordering fractions. Multiplying fractions. Ordering and comparing decimals. Percentages as fractions and decimals.
- Measurement – Metric and imperial units. Perimeter. Area. Estimating volume and capacity.
- Geometry – Properties of 3D shapes, Angle rules. Polygons. Reflection and translation.
- Statistics – Line graphs. Time and timetables.

Your child will be given a piece of homework to complete each week. This will be a combination of both a re-cap from the lesson and a random times table worksheet. It will be a double sided A4 sheet and it is very important for your child to complete this on their own. Any areas they find difficult and not able to do on their own will then be re-addressed.
